Orchid Media Care

Orchid media and repotting

• Orchid Media will decompose in time and as the chunks of bark break down to smaller pieces, the orchid roots receive less air and start to ''choke''. For this reason, orchids in bark based media should be repotted every 18~24 months.

• Orchid Media has been packaged dry for long storage life. You must soak this media in a pail of water for 12 to 24 hours prior to use. Drain off the excess water before planting your orchid. Using dry media will seriously damage roots.

• Ensure that you have selected the correct type of media for the genus of orchid you are repotting.

• The best time to repot is when the new growth is just starting to show roots.

• Be careful not to break too many roots.

• Remove dead or unhealthy roots.

• Use disinfected tools when repotting.

• Consider root mass when determining new pot size, if you are removing a substantial portion of the existing root system, you may not need to move up one pot size.

• Always mark the date you repotted the plant on the tap for future reference.

• Keep out of reach of children!
